We are now inviting applications for all positions at Baltimore Sailing Club for the 2024 summer season! The deadline to apply is 1st February for the positions of Club Manager and Senior Sailing Instructor, and 18th February for all other positions. See the Available Positions below.

General Information:

  • This summer, we have sailing courses running across the following dates:
    • July youth course 1: 1st July – 12th July
    • July youth course 2: 15th July – 26th July
    • August youth course: 6th – 16th August (Inc. Sat 10th)
    • Taster course: 29th July – 2nd August
    • Adult course 1: 29th July – 1st August
    • Adult course 2: 12th August – 15th August
  • Applicants for any Instructor or Helper position must be available to work Monday to Friday for a full course to be considered.
  • Additional work is available for Boat Stewards outside of sailing course activities. This includes mark laying and safety boat duties for club racing on Saturdays, and at Club sailing events.
    • We expect applicants for Boat Stewards positions to be willing and able to take up this additional work. (An exception is made for applicants who cannot do so because they are taking part in these events.)
  • Additional work is available for Club Stewards outside of sailing course activities. This includes working the bar and waiting tables at Club dinners on Wednesdays, and working the bar after club racing on Saturdays.
    • We expect applicants for Club Stewards positions to be willing and able to take up this additional work. (An exception is made for applicants who cannot do so because they are taking part in these events.)
  • Additional work may also be available for boat stewards and instructors outside of sailing course activities to facilitate running a ferry service out to moored boats for members over the summer. We expect our staff to be willing to make themselves available for this service.

Selection Criteria

It may be necessary to interview for some positions if we have a similar level of experience and the position is oversubscribed. The Club especially welcomes applications from members who have shown a willingness and ability to assist in the club on a voluntary basis in the past.

Certificates Required

It is the responsibility of the applicant to ensure that all their certs are valid and in date.

Available Positions

Club Manager

Responsibilities:

Day-to-day management of the clubhouse for the months of June, July and August.

  • Training and management of club stewards
  • Creating rotas for club stewards
  • Managing the provision of daily meals for sailing course staff
  • Managing the club bar, bar stock and bar staffing rotas
  • Ensuring that the club is clean and presentable at all times

Requirements:

  • Bar/restaurant management experience or equivalent
  • Candidates must be at least 18 years of age on the 1st June

Club Steward

Responsibilities:

  • Preparing the clubhouse for club dinners and events
  • Staffing the bar after club racing on Saturdays
  • Staffing the bar and waiting tables at club dinners
  • Cleaning the clubhouse and changing rooms

Requirements:

  • Bar experience is highly desirable
  • Candidates must be at least 18 years of age on the 1st June

Senior Sailing Instructor

Responsibilities:

We are seeking a Senior Sailing Instructor to manage a team of sailing instructors to deliver the club’s Irish Sailing accredited sailing courses. This position is available from 1st July to 16th August.

Requirements:

  • Irish Sailing Senior Instructor Certificate
  • Safety Boat Certificate
  • First Aid / Emergency Care Certificate (covering CPR and cold water immersion)
  • Sport Ireland Safeguarding 1 Certificate
  • Garda Vetting Clearance
  • VHF Licence is desirable, but not necessary
  • Candidates must be at least 19 years of age on the 1st July
  • Preference will be given to candidates who are actively involved in sailing on an ongoing basis.

Advanced Sailing Instructor

  • Irish Sailing Advanced Dinghy Instructor Certificate
  • Safety Boat Certificate
  • First Aid / Emergency Care Certificate (covering CPR and cold water immersion)
  • Sport Ireland Safeguarding 1 Certificate
  • Garda Vetting Clearance
  • VHF Licence is desirable, but not necessary
  • Candidates must be at least 17 years of age on the 27th June
  • Preference will be given to candidates who are actively involved in sailing on an ongoing basis.

  • National Powerboat (Level 2) Certificate
  • First Aid / Emergency Care Certificate (covering CPR and cold water immersion)
  • Sport Ireland Safeguarding 1 Certificate
  • Garda Vetting Clearance
  • VHF Licence is desirable, but not necessary
  • Candidates must be at least 17 years of age on the 27th June
  • Preference will be given to candidates who are actively involved in sailing on an ongoing basis

Helper

Responsibilities:

  • Assisting sailing instructors in their teaching duties

Requirements:

  • Candidates must be at least 16 years old on the 27th June
  • Helpers must be club members

Boat Steward

Responsibilities:

  • Pre-season preparation of RIBs and Club boats (Topaz, Stratos, 1720)
  • Routine maintenance of RIBs and Club boats
  • Launch and retrieval of RIBs
  • Refueling of RIBs
  • Maintenance and charging of VHFs
  • Provide safety boat services as needed to sailing courses, racing days and key club events (Rambler Cup, 1720 Nationals, etc)
  • Mark laying for Saturday racing, Events and Sailing course
  • Help in making sure the club and facilities are in good condition on ongoing basis
  • Provide advice/help where possible to instructors and parents on damaged boats
  • Flexibility required around helping club stewards/ club manager where necessary
  • Ensure access to club entrances and exits clear at all times

Requirements:

  • Safety Boat Certificate
  • First Aid Certificate
  • Working knowledge of driving, running and maintenance of all club boats and ribs
  • Ability to launch and retrieve boats
  • Interest and ability in Boat Maintenance
  • Full clean driving licence is desirable, but not necessary
  • ISA Sailing Instructor Certificate is desirable, but not necessary
  • VHF Licence is desirable, but not necessary
  • Candidates must be at least 17 years of age on the 27th June
