Who is your sailor of the Year 2017?

Over the past 12 months – Afloat have picked out 28 individual sailors and pairings who have excelled in their respective disciplines, be it offshore, dinghy, cruise or powerboat.

On Friday, February 9th, the judging panel will announce the Sailor the Year at the Irish Sailing Awards to be held in the RDS, Dublin and you can have your say by voting in the poll on the Afloat website.

Each sailor of the month will also be honoured at the Awards Ceremony. Nicholas O’Leary was named Sailor of the month (keelboats) last July and you can read the article here. One of Nicholas’s first nominations was September 2009 after winning the All Ireland Sailing Championship. He was recognised again in Nov 2010 for retaining the same title.

Nicholas was joined in August by Fionn Lyden as Sailor of the Month (Olympic).

Fionn received his first nomination in September 2012 following nine race wins from nine races at the Irish Sailing All Ireland Junior Sailing Championships. In March 2015 he was recognised again for his special contribution to the victory of University College Cork in the Intervarsity Team Nationals. You can read the article here.

Brian Leonard is one of three Senior Instructors from around the country in the running for the Volvo Irish Sailing Senior Instructor of the Year 2017. This is in recognition of his hard work and expertise shown as a Senior Instructor.
